Better Me

I watched Better Man with a friend yesterday. If you've heard the movie, you know it's about the guy who sang "Better Man." This post is not about how good or bad the movie was.

Yesterday was January 27th, the day before Chinese Lunar New Year's Eve, and I went to see a biographical musical movie. The mental journey of how he rose to fame and the fall addiction and redeemed himself later in life. It inspired my goals for 2025, a new year resolution "to become a better me." I've always wanted to better myself, but my actions are never consistent with my plan; you can guess that I never reach the goal at the end of the year. This year, something's different: a feeling that nothing will stop me; it's time to execute and change. People may say? You are exaggerating; you're good! You are doing well, but internally, I need change to break out of this hamster circle. Some of us might not be as extreme as drugs and addictions, but the feeling of being stuck, the anxiety of not being in control of yourself and your environment, is agonizing.

2025, I am looking forward to moving forward.

Also, a footnote for the future writings: in the movie, Robbie William made amends to the past, said sorry, and patched things up with people he had feuded with. Is that a necessary step before becoming a better self, or do you focus on what's ahead? (I am yet to determine; that's why I am reading my next book, STOP people pleasing )
